West Sussex County Council has been actively working to improve bus journey times across the region by introducing traffic light priority adjustments at 20 key junctions. Upgrades have been completed at 10 of these junctions, with plans to implement changes at the remaining 10. Liz Robbins, Team Leader of Intelligent Transport Systems and Traffic Monitoring at the Council, was tasked with finding an effective method to track the impact of these signal changes, particularly on bus running times.

A recent stop matching update has increased journey completion, in some cases by more than 100% in completed trip counts, unlocking more accurate KPIs and deeper transit insights.
