Driving 91% On-Time Performance: how Kent Fastrack optimised its electric bus network with Mosaiq

Kent Fastrack, operated by The Go-Ahead Group, is a high-quality, bus rapid transit-style service now running a fully electric fleet across parts of Kent in the United Kingdom. As the new operator, Kent Fastrack has relied on data and operational insights to fine-tune service reliability and deliver a smooth passenger experience. Central to this effort has been the Mosaiq Transit Intelligence Suite, which has enabled the team to adapt quickly, monitor performance and continually improve operations.

Launching an electric network with data-driven scheduling

Introducing a fully electric fleet brought operational change and raised passenger expectations, demanding accurate schedules and close service management from day one.

“Coming into Fastrack, it was a brand-new network for us,” said Isobel Hedley-Jones, Head of Fastrack at The Go-Ahead Group. “It’s been really important to do a lot of work on the schedules, including fine-tuning early on. The data from Mosaiq has been invaluable in helping us identify where those tweaks were needed as we got the network up and running.”

With a diverse driver team including experienced operators, newly qualified PCV licence holders, and staff transferring from other operators or parts of Go-Ahead, the operations team has had to support a range of needs. Mosaiq made it easy to monitor driver performance and deliver targeted support from day one.

“When you've got a cohort like that, it’s crucial to have access to reliable data,” Isobel added. “We use it to monitor driving standards and punctuality, feeding insights back to the drivers for coaching, and to our scheduler so they can refine the timetables.”

Real-time optimisation in action

Schedule optimisation at Fastrack is not just theoretical, it happens in real time and is driven by data.

“We’ve already made one service change and are about to implement another, both shaped by insights from Mosaiq,” said Isobel.

This flexible, insight-led approach has been especially important on more operationally challenging routes, such as Fastrack’s service connecting Amazon’s fulfilment centre with Gravesend.

“One of our routes functions like a shuttle for Amazon, and we were seeing a lot of early running,” explained Isobel. “It’s tricky to get those schedules right. The team’s been using Mosaiq dashboards and reporting tools to monitor how drivers are performing and adjust timings to smooth out the service.”

Neil Sadler, Network Ambassador at Go-Aheads Kent Fastrack, also uses Mosaiq to prepare revised run times and tackle timing challenges.

"I find Mosaiq user friendly, it gives me the information I need accurately,” said Neil. “One of the main benefits is the ability to see the actual running time between any two points, not just the departure-to-departure times. This enables me to see where there is too much or too little dwell time for crew changes and customer boarding at stops like Bluewater Bus Station."

This level of detailed insight proved invaluable when the team noticed drivers departing Bluewater Shopping Centre at inconsistent intervals. The data helped uncover the reason.

“Some drivers were using the bathroom facilities there, which makes sense as it’s the main stop on the route,” adds Isobel. “With Mosaiq, we could back that up with real data. That kind of transparency is really helpful, especially when presenting to Kent County Council. We’re not guessing – we’re showing exactly what’s happening, when, with data.”

Achieving 91% On-Time Performance through transit data insights

The results speak for themselves. For three consecutive months, Fastrack has achieved 91% On-Time Performance (OTP), a significant milestone for any UK bus operator.

“In the industry, hitting over 90% is a big deal, so we’re really proud of that,” said Isobel. “It reflects the strength of our schedules, but also the benefit of having dedicated bus-only roads in Kent, which help us stay reliable.”

Collaborating with Mosaiq for smarter transit operations

While the data tools have been highly useful, the collaborative partnership with the Mosaiq by Snapper Services team has also been a valuable part of the process.

“The Mosaiq team has been fantastic to work with,” said Isobel. “They ran dedicated sessions with us and really helped align our OTP and KPI reporting with the system. It was complex at first, but their support made a huge difference.”

A data-led future for Fastrack

With Mosaiq’s flexible tools, historical insights and a collaborative approach, Fastrack is doing more than just responding to challenges. It’s building a forward-looking, data-led operation where performance, transparency and reliability are built from the ground up.

From launch to optimisation, the Fastrack team is proving what’s possible when operational excellence meets intelligent transit data.
